Champion, Just Champion

Today I feel like the manager of Galatasaray – unbeaten and excited about what’s to come.

As always it’s brilliant to be announcing another set of winners for Host Your Kit.

Our judges have spent the last week looking through the entries for our Champions League giveaway. As the last round of group games get underway we have our own lucky Host Your Kit 16 – 16 teams who’ve negotiated the Group stages successfully and have won themselves a brand new adidas kit.

It’s not been easy as we’ve had more entries this time round than Apple has iPhone emojis so you should be really proud if your team is listed below.

Well done to the teams we’ve selected. Your entries really stood out.

What impressed us again was the effort that so many parents and coaches are putting in to support their children’s teams each week and the continuing growth in the game among girls. Keep up the good work!

Today’s winning teams include our first ever winners from Northern Ireland – well how could we not since their successful qualification for Euro 2016??!! Craigavon does great work promoting cross-community football while Cappagh Spurs is doing a fantastic job promoting the game to girls in Omagh.

Among our other winners are Glasgow Celtic North, a team that’s been set up to encourage children with mental health issues to play the game; Sedgeley Scorpions, a boys team in Stourbridge who welcomed a young girl into their ranks; and Ardencaple FC who got themselves into no less than the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive penalty kicks taken in 24 hours.

One of the entries made us chuckle. This was from a mum who has a young boy and girl who play football. “I can’t help coach them, I can’t offer advice, I can’t even kick a ball. So what a great feeling it would be if I could help them win a brand new kit.”

As they say in Yorkshire (doffs peaked cap) – that’s a champion mum!

What definitely shone through all the entries was the hard work and dedication of the coaches who every week volunteer their valuable time to make football happen. I think we can safely say they all have the support of their dressing rooms!

So here we go, our Host Your Kit winners are:

Burnham Ramblers Spartans U11 Boys
Pollington Panthers U14 Boys, Goole
Runcorn Town U11 Boys
Sedgley Scorpions U10 Boys, Wolverhampton
WYFC U14 Girls, Wapping
Welbeck Welfare U12 Girls, Mansfield

Northern Ireland
Cappagh Spurs U16 Girls. Omagh
Craigavon City Colts U14s

Ardencaple FC U13 Boys
Eyemouth Utd Sharks U12 Boys
Glasgow Celtic North U12 Boys
Kilsyth Athletic Boys U14s
Penicuik Athletic U11 Boys

FC Tredegar U11 Girls
Llandudno FC U10 Girls
Rhyl FC U10 Girls

Congratulations! You get yourselves a brand new adidas kit courtesy of cloud computing company iomart which organises Host Your Kit. We’ll be in touch shortly with the details.

Want to Look Like Champions?

It’s at this time of the year that as a football fan you need to know your Shakhtar Donetsk from your CSKA Moscow. On Wednesday the UEFA Champions League Group stages kick off – not a time to get the politics and geography of Ukrainian and Russian football confused!

With four English clubs into the last 32 there’s sure to be plenty of drama to come. Will Chelsea, Manchester City, Man Utd and Arsenal make it to the next stage; will Jose triumph over his old club Porto; and can anyone stop the Messi/Neymar Barcelona goal machine?

To celebrate the magic and mayhem to come as the cream of European football tries to make it through to the Round of 16 after Christmas, we will be giving away 16 fantastic adidas team kits to make you feel like #champions.

As ever with Host Your Kit, all you have to do is tell our judges why you think your youth football team deserves to receive a new team strip. We’ll look through the entries after midnight on 31st October and announce 16 winners on Monday 2nd November.

Wearing a top quality kit can make you feel like a champion and maybe winning one of our 16 kits will also make you play like champions too.

So get those entries in and who knows, your team could look smart enough to grace the Nou Camp!

Yours in football,

HYK Gaffer

Our World Cup Winners

The World Cup may be over but what an impact it’s made on all of us involved in promoting the game to young women.

It’s produced many a late night sat in front of the television, no end of drama – not least during England’s semi-final against Japan – and a huge outpouring of support on social media and from many a hardened hack. Ok there are some men who just don’t get it and never will but for the rest of us, we are with the women’s game all the way.

The Host Your Kit judges hope it has inspired many more girls to see what opportunities playing sport and pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle can bring.

Talking of inspiration, we hope that the winners of our Women’s World Cup giveaway will wear the new Nike kits they’ve won with real pride. We had over 100 entries from girls’ football teams across the nation and we’re sorry we could only pick 15 winners but their entries were the ones that stood out for us.

We asked you why your team deserved a new kit. Among the answers we got were that teams were still having to do an incredible amount of fundraising to finance their travel as well as kits; that it was hard to find sponsors who couldn’t see the benefit of supporting girls playing football; and that many girls’ sides were still having to wear ‘smelly old’ hand-me-down kits.

For others a kit was deserved for finishing the season undefeated or as a reward for expanding the club and creating new girls teams.

So here are the teams who’ll be wearing an iomart sponsored Nike kit next season:

AFC Boscombe Under 12′s

Coalville Town Ravenettes Under 11′s

Dumbarton Utd Under 16′s

Feniscowles and Pleasington Under 12′s

Glasgow Girls FC Under 15′s

Liverpool Feds Under 14′s

Loass FC Under 13′s

Lomond Colts Under 13′s

Morton Under 13′s

Northwich Vickies Under 13′s

Oxton Ladies Under 15′s

Rhydyfelin Girls Under 15′s

Skipton Juniors FC Under 12′s

Southampton Saints Under 13′s

Stockport County Ladies Under 16′s

Thanks to our wonderful ambassador Manchester and Scotland star Jenny Beattie, our supporters Greater Sport Manchester, Youth Football Scotland and She Kicks magazine who helped spread the word, plus our retail partners Greave Sports. And also to cloud company iomart who organise the competition and fund the kits.

However it’s the dedicated coaches and parents who deserve the greatest praise for giving up their time to support young women in sport.

The comments they made in submitting their entries sum up why they get involved. “These girls make us proud every single week,” wrote one coach. “We have seen our girls grow on and off the pitch,” said another.

This quote probably sums it up best: “If we can give girls confidence or pride in their abilities we give them confidence in the rest of their lives.”

Here at Host Your Kit we couldn’t agree more!

Congratulations to our winners and commiserations to those who weren’t successful in this competition.

Keep following us on Twitter and Facebook and keep your eyes out for further kit giveaways from Host Your Kit through the rest of this year.

Yours in Sport.

HYK Survey on Women’s Football Highlights Need for More Financial Support

As part of our Host Your Kit campaign to celebrate the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup we asked you to help us by completing our survey about the state of the women’s game.

The World Cup has definitely fanned the flames of debate about what should be done to encourage more girls to play football so we were keen to know what you thought as the coaches, parents and players involved in the women’s game.

Thanks to the 89 of you (44 women and 45 men who are mostly coaches and parents) who filled out the survey. You have given us some great insight.

The most interesting feedback you gave us was around the financial support and coverage afforded to the women’s game. 92% of you agreed that more funding was needed from the governing bodies of the game with a further 87% agreeing that professional clubs should be forced to supply more funding to develop the sport for girls. These results echo the current debate that has stirred following the settlement of the largest ever TV rights deal for the Premier League about more funding needing to be shared out at grassroots level in general. Our results clearly show that this debate must incorporate grassroots development of the women’s game even more so.

As part of the survey we asked you to offer up your own ideas on how to encourage more young women to take up football. Among the suggestions you made were: creating a Match of the Day style programme to showcase the women’s game or alternatively, including highlights of the FA Women’s Premier League within MoTD2.

The idea of a separate association for the women’s game, a Women’s FA, was also put forward. This, you believe, would certainly give it a louder voice and provide a single platform to fight for the game in what is still an overwhelmingly male-dominated environment at the governance level. This was backed up by 67% of you agreeing that the existing football authorities do not provide enough promotion or support for the women’s game. However two thirds of you still said you believe there will come a day when we see a female manager in the men’s Premier League.

One of the things we’ve done through our Host Your Kit campaigns is to help reduce the financial burden on youth football teams by helping to fund the costs of the kit. The need for bigger sponsorship deals was another point made by many of you completing our survey. You feel that sponsorship by some of the brands that support the men’s game wouldn’t go amiss and would help ease the cash flow problems faced by many girls youth leagues. Sponsorship would in turn, you feel, increase pressure for more coverage and more coverage would then lead to more sponsorship.

Among all the ideas and positive input you gave us by filling out our survey there was one alarming statistic but perhaps sadly, not a surprising one. This was that 94% of you felt that women’s football is treated as inferior to the men’s game. We have just seen the huge achievements made by England’s Lionesses at this year’s World Cup and hope it will have a lasting positive impact on football here in the UK on their return. Hopefully we will see a broader respect for the women’s game and also more opportunities for young women to join a club and enjoy playing.
Thanks to all of you who took the time to complete the Host Your Kit survey.

Click here to read the full survey and results.

Enjoy the rest of the World Cup and if you haven’t already entered our competition to win a FREE Nike kit for your team you’ve got until the final kicks off at midnight on Sunday to get your entry in!

Manchester City & Scotland Star Jenny Beattie Launches HYK Women’s World Cup Kit Giveaway

Host Your Kit is back!

Having spent the past 6 months in the company of the FBI proving beyond doubt that our competition is simply too good to be true, we’re delighted to bring back our favourite football kit competition to honour and support the beautiful game.

For the next month we, along with every other football fan, will have our eyes focused on Canada where the Women’s World Cup will showcase all that’s good about the sport we know and love.

As a result we are running a competition for girls’ teams only. It’s all about helping the grassroots of the game by giving female youth teams the chance to win FREE kits.

I’m delighted to say that the fantastic Manchester City and Scotland player Jenny Beattie has agreed to be our ambassador for this campaign. Jenny is a top defender for both club and country and we are so proud to have her as part of the HYK boot room.

Jenny will be sharing her thoughts about the women’s game during the World Cup by writing blogs for the She Kicks website which we’ll share with you via social media.

Jenny says, “This year’s World Cup is the biggest showcase there has ever been for women’s football so I’m delighted to be part of this campaign to help the game at its grassroots. It’s a fantastic opportunity to win a top quality Nike kit for the new season and I hope as many girls’ teams enter as possible.”

For this Host Your Kit competition, we have 15 FREE Nike squad kits to be won. They are Nike’s Women’s Matchday kits so are tailored specifically for women. As ever each kit will be for 15 players – 14 outfield players and a goalkeeper.

We established Host Your Kit in 2012 to encourage grassroots sport and help teams that might not otherwise be able to afford new kits and we reckon we’ve dolled out almost 300 kits now worth over £120,000.

We’re also delighted to have our retail partners Greaves Sports on board – to ensure that the winning teams look and feel a million dollars. We also have to thank cloud company iomart who are the (flat!) back four behind Host Your Kit.

Plenty of girls’ teams have already been winners in our previous Host Your Kit campaigns – Chesterfield Ladies Under 11s, Oakwood Foxes U16s from Hampshire, Morton Girls U11s from Greenock in Scotland, Nottingham Forest Ladies U16s, and Welsh side Llanfoist Girls U12s to name but five…. – so get those entries in and hopefully you can be a winner too.

You can follow our campaign on Twitter @hostyourkit Look out for the hashtag #wearitlikejen

Best of luck to all and enjoy the next few weeks watching the best of women’s football.

Right we’re off to see if we can find someone to buy the media rights to Host Your Kit – $20M anyone?

Yours in football,

HYK Gaffer

Taking Time Out

After a fast and furious 12 months – and far too many mince pies over the Christmas break! – Host Your Kit has decided to take time out at the start of 2015 to get back to full fitness for the year ahead.

Rather than giving kits away every month this year we’re going to be running specific competitions focused around key sporting events – the first of which is a spot competition ahead of this weekend’s BBL Cup Final – so make sure you continue to follow us on Facebook  and Twitter so you don’t miss out.

Host Your Kit is proud to have helped scores of football, basketball, hockey and rugby teams since it was launched three years ago. Our campaign has spanned an incredible time in sport in the United Kingdom which played host to the best ever Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Our first winners back in March 2012 were an U11 girls’ football team from Perth in Scotland called Jeanfield Swift while Blackburn Northern Boys U15s hockey team were our final winners of 2014. In between, almost 200 teams and individuals have been rewarded with FREE high quality sports kits.

We would like to say a few words of thanks to everyone who has helped make Host Your Kit a success so far.

From football we’ve been supported by Scotland internationals Charlie Mulgrew and Emma Black (n´ee Fernon) plus Rangers’ Robbie Crawford.

From basketball our ambassadors have been GB and Glasgow Rocks star Kieron Achara (see our fab giveaway from Kieron ahead of the BBL Cup Final!) plus Scotland stars Clair Paxton and Steven Ross.

Sports organisations basketballscotland, Greater Sport Manchester and Youth Football Scotland have spread the word to youth sports teams right across the UK.  And a big thanks also to our young ambassadors who willingly allowed us to plaster their photos over our promotional material.

Host Your Kit is organised by cloud computing company iomart which is a proud supporter of grassroots sport and an enthusiastic promoter of tech as a career for young men and women.

So as 2015 gets underway, enjoy all the sport you play this year, shake hands with your opponents and show respect to all the parents, coaches and officials without whom your sport wouldn’t take place.

As far as the team at Host Your Kit is concerned, the final whistle hasn’t been blown. So grab your half time oranges, keep in touch via social media and we’ll see you with more kit giveaways and spot competitions soon!

Yours in sport,

HYK Gaffer

Dudley Town U15 Footballers Kick Off New Season In Style

Dudley Town U15s football team has made a great start to the new season after winning Host Your Kit.
Their new red Adidas kit seems to have brought them luck as they’ve won the first two matches of the new season to go top of Division One of the Stourbridge & District Youth Football League.

Denis Robinson, coach of Dudley Town U15s, said: “The new kit from iomart is fantastic and it’s given the team a real boost. They finished in sixth place last season so to win their first two games on the trot has given them real confidence for this one.”
Phil Worms, Chief Marketing Officer for iomart, said: “Our judges were very impressed with the commitment of everyone associated with Dudley Town and the fact that they help local schools out by giving them their old kits. We wish them all the best for the season ahead and are delighted that the new kit is already bringing them some early success!”

Ardrossan Hockey Club Win First Ever Match in iomart Kit

Huge congratulations to Ardrossan Hockey Club’s brand new second eleven who won their first ever match at the weekend wearing a brand new iomart sponsored kit.

Ardrossan won the Grays hockey kit after impressing the Host Your Kit judges with the work they’ve been doing in the local community in Ayrshire in Scotland to encourage more teenage girls to take up the sport. The club now has more than 40 young players training each week and as a result it’s been able to form a brand new 2nd XI.

This weekend the girls played their first match in the West of Scotland District League Division 4 and won 4-1!

Coach Winnie Dorrian said: “Thanks to the hard work we’ve done in the community and the support of iomart we now have two teams in action this season. Hockey is a great game and after being showcased at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer we really hope we can keep the legacy going by getting even more teenage girls playing.”

And they’re not the first team from Ayrshire to win Host Your Kit. Last year Ayr Storm U14 basketball team won themselves a brand new Spalding strip after impressing our judges.

The new strip was delivered by our Host Your Kit retail partner Gilmour Sports.

Well done girls and keep up your winning start!

Host Your Kit Winners August 2014

What a summer of sport we’ve had! Straight from the World Cup, onto the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and now the start of the footy season – The Gaffer has truly been in seventh heaven as well as needing  about three remote controls to keep up with all the action on the telly. Fortunately I did manage to rouse myself from the sofa and gather our judges to choose the August winners for Host Your Kit.

This month we have 5 fabulous football teams who will all be wearing a brand new adidas kit in the near future.

The company behind Host Your Kit, cloud company iomart, is headquartered in Glasgow and I’m delighted to say our first winner is from the city. According to the parent who sent in their entry, Broomhill Boys U12s are “one of the hardest working teams I’ve seen. They win graciously and lose humbly.” That’s pretty high praise boys! We hope you got swept up in the amazing atmosphere of the Games and wish you all the best for the new season. ‘Gie it laldy’ and wear your new kit with pride.

From Scotland to the north of England and well done to St Joseph’s FC Under 11s in Accrington who have their manager Matthew to thank. He sent through three photos showing how old and worn their playing kit was – to be honest it looked more like the kit that the original Accrington Stanley players would have worn back in 1891!! Thanks to Matthew they’re going to be one of the best-dressed teams from now on.

A proud mum sent in what proved to be a winning entry on behalf of Chesterfield Ladies Under 11s.  The girls play in the Sheffield and Hallamshire League and after a difficult start they kept their heads up and had a storming finish to their season, winning their last seven matches to finish in fourth place.  Well done girls, a lovely new kit is coming your way.

Congrats also to Feniscowles and Pleasington Girls Football Club from Burnley, or the Fenny Reccers as they’re better known.  The club only got going last summer and now has over 40 girls playing football every week.  Their coach Dave says they’ve had a fantastic first season and he pointed to “all the hard work and positive attitudes from players, parents and coaches” that has helped encourage so many young girls join the club. The Under13s have passed their kit down to the Under 12s and as a result need a new one, so Host Your Kit is delighted to award them a brand new adidas kit to reward their kindness and the commitment of everyone involved with the club.

Over to Wales for our final footy winners this month – Westend Boys U12s from Swansea.  They have applied almost every month this year and have never once complained when another team’s entry has won the judges’ vote in front of theirs. Well this time round Westend you scored!

Our basketball winners for August are Chadderton Tigers Boys Under 10s. They are a newly formed junior basketball team who train and play at the Sport For All Centre in Failsworth near Oldham in Greater Manchester where they’ve gained some extra insight to the game with coaching sessions by none other than the Manchester Giants’ Paul Cantwell. We reckon they’re going to be a fantastic team and we can’t wait to see them fully kitted out in a new Spalding strip and slam dunking their way to victory.

And last but by no means least we have Troon Ladies Hockey Club U16s. Their coach explained how they have spent the last three years helping to encourage the game in the local community as part of the Scottish Hockey Union’s development programme.  Fantastic work girls – a brand new Grays kit is your reward.

To all our winners this month we’d like to dedicate the phrase that came to define the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games – you’re ‘Pure Dead Brilliant!’

Host Yor Kit Winners July 2014

Félicitations – Vous Ȇtes Les Champions!

Bonjour mes amis. Avez vous gagner un kit de sport? Ok, let’s stop right there – my French is probably as irritating to you as the USA’s impression of the France kit was to its fans during the World Cup! Despite it being Bastille Day the other day, I’m definitely no Arsène Wenger so on we go in English.

So to the big question, have you stormed your way to victory in our July Host Your Kit competition? Here are the teams who impressed our judges with their entries and who will be taking delivery of brand new sports kits over the summer.

The football teams who’ve won themselves a brand new adidas strip are: Adlington Hawks Boys U11s from Chorley – the wife of one of the coaches wrote in to tell us what a ‘fantastic bunch of kids’ and how hard they work; Albrighton Junior Girls U12s from Shropshire who, despite their kit clashing with several other teams’ still saw clearly enough to win their league; Burntwood Dragons Greens FC U15s from Burntwood in Staffordshire, who also have a clash of kits and can’t raise money for a new one; Harrow Hill Girls from Gloucestershire who have got an U16s team together for the first time and need a decent kit to boost their confidence;  Morton Girls U11s from Greenock whose club have grown their player base from 10 to 61 in just six months; Newport United Girls U14s whose coach says they deserve a confidence boost after wearing hand-me-down kit for the past two seasons ; and Silverdale Lions Boys U11s, from Walsall, who have held a number of events to try to raise money for a new kit but still haven’t reached their target – we’re glad to help you out guys!

And we have other sports kit to give out too….

Our basketball winners this month are Copley Boys U10s from Stalybridge. Copley basketball club is due to re-launch itself to its local community this autumn and is desperately in need of new kits. A fabulous Spalding kit is now on its way from HYK!

And our rugby winners, who will receive a brand new Gilbert strip, are Hunslet Parkside Boys U12s from Leeds.  The team’s coach says the club has been teaching children from the local area to play rugby for over 35 years and winning a new kit would be ‘amazing for the kids and the parents.’

Congratulations to one and all. Don’t forget to keep those entries coming in as we give away brand new sports kits every month. Bonne Chance!
