Our World Cup Winners

The World Cup may be over but what an impact it’s made on all of us involved in promoting the game to young women.

It’s produced many a late night sat in front of the television, no end of drama – not least during England’s semi-final against Japan – and a huge outpouring of support on social media and from many a hardened hack. Ok there are some men who just don’t get it and never will but for the rest of us, we are with the women’s game all the way.

The Host Your Kit judges hope it has inspired many more girls to see what opportunities playing sport and pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle can bring.

Talking of inspiration, we hope that the winners of our Women’s World Cup giveaway will wear the new Nike kits they’ve won with real pride. We had over 100 entries from girls’ football teams across the nation and we’re sorry we could only pick 15 winners but their entries were the ones that stood out for us.

We asked you why your team deserved a new kit. Among the answers we got were that teams were still having to do an incredible amount of fundraising to finance their travel as well as kits; that it was hard to find sponsors who couldn’t see the benefit of supporting girls playing football; and that many girls’ sides were still having to wear ‘smelly old’ hand-me-down kits.

For others a kit was deserved for finishing the season undefeated or as a reward for expanding the club and creating new girls teams.

So here are the teams who’ll be wearing an iomart sponsored Nike kit next season:

AFC Boscombe Under 12′s

Coalville Town Ravenettes Under 11′s

Dumbarton Utd Under 16′s

Feniscowles and Pleasington Under 12′s

Glasgow Girls FC Under 15′s

Liverpool Feds Under 14′s

Loass FC Under 13′s

Lomond Colts Under 13′s

Morton Under 13′s

Northwich Vickies Under 13′s

Oxton Ladies Under 15′s

Rhydyfelin Girls Under 15′s

Skipton Juniors FC Under 12′s

Southampton Saints Under 13′s

Stockport County Ladies Under 16′s

Thanks to our wonderful ambassador Manchester and Scotland star Jenny Beattie, our supporters Greater Sport Manchester, Youth Football Scotland and She Kicks magazine who helped spread the word, plus our retail partners Greave Sports. And also to cloud company iomart who organise the competition and fund the kits.

However it’s the dedicated coaches and parents who deserve the greatest praise for giving up their time to support young women in sport.

The comments they made in submitting their entries sum up why they get involved. “These girls make us proud every single week,” wrote one coach. “We have seen our girls grow on and off the pitch,” said another.

This quote probably sums it up best: “If we can give girls confidence or pride in their abilities we give them confidence in the rest of their lives.”

Here at Host Your Kit we couldn’t agree more!

Congratulations to our winners and commiserations to those who weren’t successful in this competition.

Keep following us on Twitter and Facebook and keep your eyes out for further kit giveaways from Host Your Kit through the rest of this year.

Yours in Sport.
